Homeschool families and co-ops
Practical outdoor skills for homeschool groups, individual students, and siblings in Southwest Washington. Build observation, problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence through coached practice.
Sessions are generally designed for ages 8–17, with activities grouped by age, experience, and ability. Ask about younger learners or mixed-age family groups. Choose a focused workshop, a longer learning day, or a three-session series.

Explore water-treatment methods, insulation, weather, shelter design, and fire safety through age-appropriate demonstrations and supervised practice.
Build a day pack, practice signaling and asking for help, and work through an outdoor problem as a team. Basic first-aid awareness can be included.
Homeschool outdoor groups are limited to 8 students. Group totals shown are for 8 students; smaller booked groups of 3 or more pay the student rate times one fewer than their actual student count. The series fee covers all three sessions. Supervising adults attend at no charge when not enrolled for instruction.

1. Navigation and trip planning: maps, compass basics, route choices, and preparing a day pack.
2. Water and shelter: water-treatment demonstrations, weather protection, and a small-team shelter exercise.
3. Signaling and preparedness: signaling, fire safety, and an age-appropriate team emergency exercise.
Each session is two hours. The listed series fee covers all three sessions. Agree all three dates in advance; teaching is initially available two to three days each month.
At least one parent or co-op adult per six students stays on site to support supervision. Supervising adults attend at no charge when not enrolled for instruction. The 8-student group maximum applies; activities and location are agreed before booking.
Normal teaching supplies and loaned demonstration equipment are included. Travel or venue charges are agreed separately. Students bring weather-appropriate clothing, water, and personal food. Instructional time excludes meal breaks.
An attendance and topic summary is available for family learning records. Parents decide how to use it in their homeschool program. Outdoor workshops do not issue a Red Cross certificate; full certification courses can be arranged separately at the listed medical rates, subject to course requirements.
Individual students can request a place in a shared workshop as dates and enrollment allow, or book a private lesson. The private rate covers one student or up to two siblings or learning partners. Organized outdoor groups have a maximum of 8 students. A booked group of 3 to 8 pays for one fewer student than attends. For example, 6 students in the $25 workshop cost $125; 8 students cost $175. Larger rosters require separate classes.

Combine a family outdoor skills session with a separately scheduled Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course. Adapt outdoor activities to participants’ ages and abilities.
Start with the certificate required for the role. Add appropriate bleeding-control, anaphylaxis, or bloodborne-pathogen training as needed.
Pair navigation and satellite communication with the full Wilderness and Remote First Aid course, or choose a shorter custom workshop without certification.
Choose MARCH Trauma Fundamentals or a full day of Tactical Trauma Skills and Scenarios, with military or civilian response emphasis. Combine with navigation, signaling, or emergency shelters. These are independent skills workshops; no official TCCC or TECC credential is issued.
Select any mix of course interests in the inquiry form. We’ll prioritize the most useful skills, confirm prerequisites, and allow the full time required for any Red Cross certificate. Range components may need a separate date or venue.
